Academic Qualifications

A minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably with Honours, in relevant engineering discipline, or other disciplines including computing and applied mathematics, from an institution of recognized standing.

The above are minimum requirements which do not guarantee admission. Selection of candidates for admission is on a competitive basis. For more information on admission requirements, please refer to the College of Design and Engineering (Graduate Programmes) website.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate their English proficiency by means of Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores. Applicants may be waived from this requirement if they completed their degree programme taught entirely in English, situated in an English speaking country, for example (non exhaustive list) Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, USA.

The official TOEFL/IELTS scoresheets must be provided during the online application period, otherwise your application will not be considered.

To meet the English requirement, the minimum score expected is:

• TOEFL (Internet-based test): 85 or
• IELTS (Academic): 6.0

The TOEFL score or IELTS result is only valid for 2 years after the test and should be valid at the beginning of the application period.

Other tests (including the TOEFL Institutional Test) and those that claim to be predictions, estimations, equivalents, simulations, etc. (e.g.MyBestscores), of the TOEFL or IELTS are unacceptable.

About Full-Time Candidature

International applicants who are not residing or working in Singapore are eligible to apply for the Full-Time programme only.

An applicant who is employed full-time, will not be eligible to apply for full-time candidature, unless the applicant is officially on leave of absence from place of employment. The applicant is to provide documentary proof when submitting the application.

University education at NUS is demanding, intensive, and rigorous, and thus requires a high degree of commitment. Full-time students are expected to commit themselves to at least 40 hours of study per week. The University strongly discourages full-time students from taking up part-time employment during term time that might interfere with their studies. Also, note that full-time students should not be employed full-time. Students should note that commitments from part-time employment will not be accepted as valid reasons for absences, uncompleted work, late submission of work, or poor performance, and may lead to exclusion from certain full-time programmes.
