Welcome Message

Welcome to the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The discipline of electrical and computer engineering pervades every aspect of modern society, and continues to be the cornerstone of rapid technological advances that improve the quality of life in this millennium. NUS ECE strives to be at the forefront of engineering education to equip our students to be engineering leaders in industry, research, and entrepreneurship.

ECE is the largest department at NUS with over 70 tenure-track and teaching faculty, and 2400 undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students.

At the undergraduate level, ECE offers two full-time and one part-time degree programmes. The full-time programmes are the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) and Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering). Students can also choose Specialisations in Advanced Electronics, Industry 4.0, Internet-of-Things, Robotics, Space Technology and Sustainable Electric Transportation. The part-time programme is the Bachelor of Technology (Electronics Engineering). All have curricula that enable students to design customized programmes to meet their individual interests and career goals. Engineering design is emphasized through various project courses and through a specialised Aerospace Systems Design track that ECE hosts through the Innovation & Design Program.

At the postgraduate level, ECE offers three research degrees, Master of Engineering (MEng), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Engineering Doctorate (EngD), and two coursework-based degrees, Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) and Master of Science (Computer Engineering). The coursework-based Master of Science programmes allow students the flexibility of choice of either full-time or part-time study. In the Master of Science (Electrical Engineering) programme, students may choose to specialise in Automation & Power Engineering, Information Systems, and Nanoelectronics. In the Master of Science (Computer Engineering) programme, students may choose to specialise in Digitalization and Communication Technologies, Computing Hardware Infrastructure, and Machine Intelligence and Applications.

ECE is a research-intensive department. Our faculty and research staff and students are engaged in cutting-edge research activities that span a diversity of areas. These include Communications & Networks; Control, Intelligent Systems & Robotics; Integrated Circuits & Embedded Systems; Power & Energy Systems; Microelectronic Technologies & Devices; Microwave & RF; and Signal Analysis & Machine Intelligence. By leveraging on expertise in these core areas, ECE engages industry and government agencies to address challenges embodied in the Smart Nation initiative such as the creation of intelligent built environments, transportation, urban sustainability, security, and health-care. ECE attracts more than S$30m of new competitive research grants every year. We are happy to note that this level of funding together with our well-equipped facilities have raised our research profile to place us amongst the top Electrical & Computer Engineering departments globally.
