Minor in Electrical Engineering (Design and Engineering)
(Open to all NUS students, except EE and CEG)
The Minor in Electrical Engineering is designed to provide undergraduate students from non-electrical engineering disciplines with foundational knowledge of electrical and electronic systems that are increasingly relevant in modern engineering and technology practice.
The minor focuses on core principles such as electrical circuits, signals, sensors, embedded systems, and electrical energy systems, with an emphasis on practical understanding rather than professional specialisation. Through a combination of compulsory foundation courses and selected electives, students gain exposure to how electrical engineering concepts underpin real-world systems that integrate hardware, software, sensing, control, and energy.
Students completing the Minor will be able to:
- develop basic literacy in electrical engineering concepts relevant to their primary discipline;
- understand how electrical and electronic subsystems interact within larger engineered systems;
- communicate more effectively with electrical engineers in multidisciplinary teams; and
- apply system-level thinking when analysing, designing, or integrating technology solutions.
This minor complements students’ primary majors by strengthening their ability to work across disciplinary boundaries.
Requirement for Minor
To be awarded the Minor in Electrical Engineering, students must earn a minimum of 20 Units of approved courses during their undergraduate candidature. The programme structure is divided into an 8-Unit core with 12 Units of electives.

Eligibility:
The Minor in Electrical Engineering is open to all undergraduate students except:
- Students who are majoring in Electrical Engineering
- Students who are majoring in Computer Engineering
Students may apply at the point of admission, where the selection criteria are based on their university admission score and/or their proficiency in mathematics.
Application by in-flight students: Year 1 and 2:
Students will be able to declare the minor themselves in the Academic Plan Declaration Exercise (APAD) before CourseReg begins – by their 5th Academic Plan Declaration exercise.
