Admission Procedure

Admission Intake

There are two (2) intakes per academic year. Successful candidates will be admitted at the beginning of each semester of the academic year i.e. either August or January.

Application Procedure

The application process for Master of Science programmes is administered by the College of Design and Engineering (CDE), Office of Graduate Programmes. For more information on the application instructions, refer to CDE website.

Applicant is to submit their application online using the NUS Graduate Admission (GDA3) system and upload the required supporting documents for assessment purpose during the applicable period. Hardcopy form and supporting documents are not required at the point of application.

All entries must be in English, including the naming of uploaded documents.

An application fee of SGD $109 (inclusive of GST)* per programme applies (non-refundable). Payment is to be made online together with application.
*Applicants who applied on or before 31 Dec 2023, the GST rate will be based on 8%. This will apply to the application and acceptance fees.

During the application period, prospective applicants are to select the following options, at the Graduate Admission System when submitting their application:

Applicants are to ensure that all the required supporting documents in softcopy are ready for upload in the online application system BEFORE making the submission online.

  • To include official explanatory notes on grading system and overall CAP/CGPA/Average Mark obtained. The explanatory notes are usually found behind the official transcripts.

  • If Degree scroll is not ready at point of application, the applicant is to provide an official status letter from issuing University stating:
    1. if applicant has completed and fulfilled the degree requirement;
    2. expected date of completion and expected date of conferment.

English Requirement

Types of Test Score: Only either TOEFL or IELTS scores will be required if applicant whose first language is not English.

  • Applicants are to upload either one of the official tests score/result (only if applicable).
  • You may be waived from this requirement if you have completed your degree programme taught entirely in English, situated in an English speaking country, for example (non-exhaustive list) Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, United Kingdom, USA.
  • The TOEFL/IELTS result is only valid for 2 years after the test and should be valid at the beginning of the application period.
  • Hardcopies of the above are not required to be submitted as this will be verified online as stated.

TOEFL:
TOEFL (internet-based test) minimum required score is > 85.

  • To provide official scoresheet when uploading. Screenshots of any kind are not accepted.
  • Candidates are requested to nominate our Institution (code 9084) to allow us access to your results online through ETS Data manager.  Scores will be verified online.

 

IELTS: 
IELTS (academic) minimum required score is > 6.0

  • To provide official scoresheet when uploading.
    Screenshots of any kind are not accepted except for IELTS indicator. My Bestscores are not accepted.
  • Test Report Form (TRF) ID should be entered in the application and clearly shown in the file uploaded.
  • IELTS scores will be verified through IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) Verification Service without any nomination.

Important Notes:

  1. Applicant is to ensure that you have checked and input the correct application data and have all the required softcopy documents READY for upload BEFORE making a submission online.
  2. Due to the high volume and tight deadline, we will not be able to patch files for applicant after submission has been made.
  3. Documents to be uploaded must be clear and sharp, with no truncation.
  4. All supporting documents submitted in a language other than English, must be accompanied by an officially translated and certified copy in the English language.
  5. File name of softcopy documents to be uploaded must be named in English.
  6. If the required documents are not ready for the intended intake, we would advise you to gather these first prior to making any submission online. If not in time, do apply in the next available intake instead.
  7. For applicant who have not been conferred the Bachelor degree yet, he/she will need to provide the latest consolidated official transcripts consisting from the 1st semester to the 7th semesters results (assuming it is a 4-years degree programme) from the University conferring the degree. This means that the applicant only have 1 remaining semester before completion of degree.
  8. If an undergraduate applicant is unable to complete their bachelor degree, with proof of being conferred the degree in time for the intended intake, we would advise you to apply in the next available intake instead.
  9. Application will be rejected if there are incomplete submission, unofficial/self-translation of transcript and/or degree scroll, required documents not provided, missing pages, false information, self-type-out of academic results etc.
  10. Any other documents not mentioned in the above table are optional only.
  11. Applicants may self-upload subject to maximum uploaded file size (if applicable).

Applicant’s Responsibility

Ensure that (i) the information you have provided is true and correct, and (ii) you have uploaded the correct required supporting documents, before submitting your application online. Once submission is made, we would not be able to entertain further change in application nor further upload of documents unless specifically requested by the Department.

Candidates planning to undertake our MSc programme must ensure that they have the financial resources to support themselves for their entire programme of study.

Funds should be set aside for living expenses as well as tuition fees. For an estimated cost of living in Singapore, you may use the calculator guide from an external site as reference.

It is important that applicant is financially prepared for pursuing their graduate studies in NUS, including expenses for accommodation, transport, food, books, digital devices, etc.
