Overview
The Master of Science (Semiconductor Technology and Operations) programme aims to provide a holistic and foundational knowledge to graduates who are interested in the field of semiconductor technology and operations, with the following education outcomes in mind.
- Equip graduates with the fundamentals and the latest semiconductor technologies with respect to materials, devices, manufacturing, packaging and testing.
- Understand semiconductor technology infrastructure investments and supply chain management.
- Review key cost and benefit decision making at the strategic, tactical and operational levels relevant to semiconductor chip design and manufacturing.
- Comprehend the complete design, technology development, and manufacturing process and technological innovation cycles.
- Understand the past and current business models of technology development process.
This MSc programme is open to Bachelor’s degree holders (preferably with honours) with relevant engineering and STEM disciplines and wish to continue their education at the graduate level on a full-time basis; as well as for the working professionals on a part-time basis.
The programme provides opportunities for working professionals, practising engineers and university graduates to upgrade their knowledge and core capabilities. Graduates can take up semiconductor Manager/Engineer roles in Process, Process Integration, New Product Introduction, Manufacturing and Operations, Yield, Test, Failure Analysis, Quality and Reliability, Industrial, Supply Chain, Customer Support, Programme Management relating to Semiconductor Industry such as Design Services; Application Drivers; Foundries; Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT); Equipment/ Material Supply Chain; Research Institutes; Government Agencies.
This MSc programme seeks to deliver the educational outcomes through formal training in different but areas relevant to semiconductor technology and operations. Such multi-disciplinary training will equip the students with a more holistic perspective to the challenges faced, and appreciate the constraints of a single perspective. Students will acquire critical thinking ability and be more open-minded. The emphasis on semiconductor technology and operations will train the students to be more responsible and conscious of the impacts of various industrial activities on the ecosystem and the society at large.
This programme is hosted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). It involves collaboration with the Singapore Hybrid-Integrated Next-Generation µ-Electronics (SHINE) Centre, Department of Material Science and Engineering (MSE), and Department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Management (ISEM).
