Associate Professor Vincent Tan has been appointed as Dean’s Chair in the Faculty of Engineering from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2021.

The Dean’s Chair appointment is in recognition of Assoc. Prof Vincent Tan’s outstanding and impactful scholarly accomplishments.

Assoc. Prof Tan was the recipient of the MIT EECS Jin-Au Kong outstanding doctoral thesis prize in 2011; the NUS Young Investigator Award in 2014; the Engineering Young Researcher Award in the Faculty of Engineering, NUS in 2018; and the Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) Fellowship (Class of 2018). He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Information Theory Society (2018/19). He was also placed in the NUS Faculty of Engineering Teaching commendation lists from 2015 to 2017.

His research interests are in the areas of information theory and its applications to high-dimensional statistical learning. He has published papers in top-tier journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, Annals of Statistics, Journal of Machine Learning Research, Communications in Mathematical Physics, and SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics.

He is currently serving as an editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and the Foundations and Trends on Communications and Information Theory.
