Congratulations to the ECE research team led by Professor Zhang Rui from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering for receiving the 2021 Stephen O. Rice Prize of IEEE Communications Society for their paper, “Modulation in the Air: Backscatter Communication Over Ambient OFDM Carrier,” in IEEE Transactions on Communications, vol. 66, no. 3, pp. 1219-1233, March 2018.
The award recognizes an original paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Communications in the previous three calendar years, which has significantly advanced the field of wired/wireless communications.
The research team comprises researchers Yang Gang, Liang Ying-Chang, Pei Yiyang and Prof Zhang Rui. Dr Yang Gang worked as a Research Fellow at ECE of NUS under the supervision of Prof Zhang Rui in 2016-2017.
Congratulations also to Research Fellow Dr Wu Qing Qing (under the supervision of Prof Zhang Rui) for having won the 2021 IEEE Communications Society Young Author Best Paper Award for his co-authored paper with Prof Zhang Rui, “Joint Trajectory and Communication Design for Multi-UAV Enabled Wireless Networks,” in IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, vol. 17, no. 3, pp. 2109-2121, March 2018.
The award honors the author(s) of an especially meritorious paper dealing with a subject related to the Society’s technical scope and who, upon the date of submission of the paper, is less than 30 years of age.
The presentation of both awards will be carried out virtually at IEEE ICC 2021 on 15 June 2021.
