Springer Thesis Award 2020 – Dr Carlos David Rodríguez Gallegos

We are proud to announce that the Ph.D. thesis of our recent graduate, Dr Carlos David Rodríguez Gallegos, titled “Modelling and Optimization of Photovoltaic Cells, Modules, and Systems” has been given the Springer Thesis Award 2020 for its scientific excellence and the high impact of its contents.

Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Gallegos joined NUS as a Ph.D. student in 2015. He did his research under the supervision of Associate Professor Sanjib Kumar Panda from NUS Electrical and Computer Engineering and Dr. Thomas Reindl from Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS). The thesis, which he successfully defended in 2019, studied the current limitations in the area of photovoltaics (PV) and proposed strategies to overcome them by applying optimization approaches. Thus, aiming for further enhance the potential of PV for real applications.

During and after his Ph.D., Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Gallegos has worked widely in the field of renewable energy and optimization algorithms resulting in more than 40 international journal/conference publications generating around 500 citations and 2 software copyright.

Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Gallegos is currently working as a Research Fellow in SERIS. His current work mainly deals with the design and supervision related to PV installations as well as with the analysis on the performance of various solar PV technologies deployed in different climate zones around the world (Singapore, Germany, Australia and China) under the project The TruePowerTM Alliance.
