Best Student Paper Award – IEEE MTT-S 2019 International Microwave Biomedical Conference (IMBioC 2019)
NUS Engineering ECE Ph.D. student Guoliang Shao (Supervisor: Professor Guo Yongxin) won the top best student paper award in the IEEE MTT-S 2019 International Microwave Biomedical Conference (IMBioC 2019) held on May 06-08, 2019 in Nanjing, China.
The IMBioC is an international forum to exchange ideas and information on the state-of-art research in microwave and RF theory and techniques that bridge the science and engineering gap as applied to biomedical systems. IMBioC 2019 received 152 papers from 17 countries/regions from Asia-Pacific, America, Europe and Africa. 43 student papers were received for the student-paper competition, out of which 12 were short-listed for the Best Student Paper Awards.
Shao’s paper, “Wearable Magnetic Localization System with Noise Cancellation for Wireless Capsule Endoscopy”, was one of the accepted papers and one of twelve short-listed papers for Best Student Paper Award. The paper developed a system configuration to make the magnetic localization wearable and improve the positioning accuracy for localizing the capsule endoscopy.
Apart from the regular presentation, candidates whose papers have been shortlisted were also required deliver a short 2-minute of presentation to introduce their research. This was Shao’s comments: “It is difficult to make the audience understand what you are doing. The key point is thinking from the audience’s point of view,” said Guoliang Shao. “ I prepared plenty of times to make our work understandable and memorable, and I’m glad with the good responses received from the audience.”
