Anjam Khursheed graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1979 with a joint BSC honors degree in Physics and Electronics. He continued on at the University of Edinburgh to do a doctorate in the subject of computational electron optics and the scanning electron microscope, and was awarded a PHD in 1983. Anjam Khursheed worked as a Research Fellow at CERN, Geneva/France, the European high energy physics laboratory, between the years, 1984 to 1987. He worked in areas related to computational accelerator physics, such as modeling the electromagnetic scattering inside electric field cavities excited by relativistic charged particles. Khursheed returned to the University of Edinburgh and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow between 1987 to 1992, engaged in research on scanning electron microscopy and electron energy spectrometers. From 1992 to 1995, he spent two years at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, where he carried out research modeling electromagnetic fields inside atomic clocks. From 1995 to the present day, Anjam Khursheed has been a lecturer/professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the National University of Singapore. His of areas of research have largely centered around novel scanning electron microscope and electron energy spectrometer design.
