Abhishek Rai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He is a founding member of Satellite Technology And Research Centre (STAR), a joint lab between DSO National Laboratories (DSO) and National University of Singapore (NUS) and is at present the Director of STAR.
He received both his BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and MSc in Communications Engineering in 2014 and 2018 respectively from Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Concurrently, he was working at the Satellite Research Centre (SaRC) at NTU. During his time there, he earned recognition from the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) as a recipient of a study award for the InfoComm Technology (ICT) sector in 2018.
His research interests predominantly revolve around advanced distributed satellite systems focusing on space communications, a domain he has been deeply engaged in since 2012 when he joined SaRC at NTU. He was part of the SaRC team which received a joint award from the President’s Technology Award in 2016. Notably, he represented Singapore in the ASEAN-India Space Cooperation Programme on Small Satellite Mission in 2018, an initiative organized by the Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP).
