Kie Leong Teo is Dean of the College of Design and Engineering (CDE) and Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). As Dean, he leads the University’s largest college, comprising 10 departments across engineering and design disciplines, and drives its strategic vision in interdisciplinary education, research, and innovation. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from NUS in 1997 and was a visiting scholar (1995–1996) and postdoctoral fellow (1997–1998) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of California, Berkeley.
Prior to his current role, he served as Vice-Dean (Research & Technology) of the former Faculty of Engineering (2011–2019), where he oversaw approximately S$150 million annually in competitive research funding and drove the Faculty’s research strategy, strengthening international collaborations and industry partnerships. He subsequently served as Deputy Dean (2019–2021), leading academic programme development and talent strategy, and played a key role in the successful merger of the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Design and Environment to form CDE in 2022.
Prof Teo is a leading expert in nano-magnetics and semiconductor devices, with research contributions in spintronics. He has contributed to national research governance through service on review panels for the National Research Foundation and A*STAR, as well as on international technical and conference committees. He was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) in 2019 and the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2026.
