Social Activities

On October 27, 2023, the NUS ECE Club, in collaboration with NUS Board Games, transformed Utown Seminar Rooms 7 and 8 into a spooky Halloween-themed haven. The Halloween Board Games Night brought students from diverse majors and Co-Curricular Activities together to have fun and unwind especially during the examination season.

The event featured a fantastic array of board games, such as 'Burrito' and 'Coup.' In 'Burrito,' players embarked on a quirky card game adventure. 'Coup,' a popular social deduction card game, added an exciting twist to the evening. These games provided the perfect backdrop for students to immerse themselves in thrilling gameplay and showcase their strategic prowess.

We are thankful for the NUS Board Games for their invaluable support in making the event a resounding success. Their expertise in the world of board games undoubtedly contributed to the enjoyable experience for all attendees. Moreover, we want to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our welfare team for their meticulous planning and dedication in sourcing the delightful Halloween-themed treats that kept everyone energised throughout the night.

The Halloween Board Games Night was more than just a gaming event; it was an opportunity to foster a sense of camaraderie and create lasting memories. We look forward to hosting more engaging events like this in the future, uniting students from different backgrounds and making our NUS community stronger than ever. Stay tuned for more exciting adventures with the NUS ECE Club!

As Covid-19 restrictions eased by mid-2022, the long-awaited ECE Camp 22, a fully face-to-face 3 days camp was organised and held from the 20th to the 22nd of June 2022! ECE Club organised the annual freshmen orientation camp with 3 full days of exciting camp and bonding activities. Involving over 25 senior students and over 100 ECE freshmen, the first fully face-to-face orientation camp after 3 years of Covid was finally here!

Freshmen were welcomed with an exclusive camp welfare pack that was kindly provided by our sponsors as well as a customised camp tee shirt! During the camp, students went through meaningful activities such as an amazing race and night walk around NUS campus to familiarize themselves with significant locations and landmarks. This indirectly provided a  campus tour, bringing freshmen around to get to know and adapt to the huge university campus environment. These activities created many opportunities for freshmen and orientation group leaders and seniors to get to know each other and share about academics, university life and even life plans! Lastly, ECE Club and ECE Camp Committee would like to place a huge shoutout and a huge thank you here to all sponsors, committee members and student leaders who have contributed, enthused and engaged with the freshmen!

As a novel initiative to provide for conducive study spaces, throughout 3 weeks in November 2021, ECE Club took the initiative to conduct peer-to-peer study sessions in preparation for the final examination period. These weekly sessions were conducted both online and offline. By creating a buddy system whereby we link up two ECE students taking similar modules, we were able to facilitate a conducive pairing system where students can learn from each other. Students could also make friends with their peers in the same course. To boost motivation, ECE Club gave out Milo drinks and stationary equipment for all students who participated. The peer-to-peer study sessions conducted benefited over 30 ECE students and were a success, as the study environment was well-organized, focused, and abided by COVID-19 regulations.

Bubble Tea Giveaway 2020

Comment from EE student Zhou Zhi Hao:

“In semester 2 of AY 2019/20, ECE club has organized a bubble tea giveaway session to welcome the ECE cohort to a new semester. I was appointed to be in charge of student registration and giving out the beverage. As milk tea and bubble tea are extremely popular with students, a long queue outside ECube could be observed 20 minutes before the event starting time. All the students who had come down to collect their drinks were enthusiastically chatting with their friends while patiently waiting for their turn to go to the registration booth. I felt it is very heartwarming that ECE club had fully funded an event like this to welcome the students back to their second home in NUS, and it also provided an opportunity for students to catch up with one and another and forge bonds between them. As one of the members who have helped in making this event possible, I felt a strong sense of accomplishment, too.”

The Undergraduate Student Council (USC) organized a lunch-cum-dialogue-session with A/Prof Vivian Ng and A/Prof Marc Armand on 20 March 2015 at T-Lab, level 7 foyer. Aptly called “Meet the Bosses”, the event provided an informal platform for students to have an open conversation with two members of the Department’s management about various aspects of our curriculum and their student life experience in NUS ECE. In addition, the USC shared about their upcoming plans to provide a more holistic learning experience for ECE students.

About 35 students gathered at this event to share about the challenges they faced and voice out some of the things they hope to see in the future. It was an insightful session as the needs and wants shared by the student community surfaced.

Each year from 2012 to 2014, the Department held a Freshmen Party for ECE freshmen at Town Green, University Town. The aim of the ECE Freshmen Party is to promote interaction between ECE faculty and students by providing the opportunity for our freshmen to be introduced to their academic advisors in an informal setting. The evening at the party has always been enjoyable, thanks to an eventful programme packed with games and musical performances put up by students and ECE professors. Moreover, everyone is treated to a sumptuous dinner with wonderful treats. Many just had loads of fun mingling and making new friends.

Freshmen Party

The Department held its second year end party in the afternoon of 9 May 2015 at the Tembusu College dining hall to celebrate the hard work that ECE undergraduate students and academic staff had put in over the past academic year. The party, which bore the theme “Super Hero”, was organized by the ECE Undergraduate Student Council (USC). Over 140 students and staff turned up for the party, ready to let their hair down and mingle with one another.

The afternoon was filled with a series of enjoyable and entertaining programs. The event kicked off with a welcome address by Deputy Head (Undergraduate Programmes & Student Life), A/Prof Vivian Ng, followed by a sumptuous spread of lunch buffet treats. Midway through the lunch, the audience was entertained by various performances on stage which included a beautiful acoustic guitar performance put up by EE4 student and President of the USC, Alex Toh, and a high-octane performance by a rock band comprising one EE1student and four students from Ridge View Residences. The two musical performances got the audience charged up for an interesting game of charades in which professors were pitted against the students. A/Prof Ganesh Samudra and Dr Rajesh Panicker courageously came on stage to act out the different super heroes. After a fun and lively battle between the two faculty members and students, the students, not surprisingly, emerged victorious. Part of the afternoon’s highlights was a portable photobooth which was highly subscribed by students and professors alike. Everyone had a good time snapping photos that were printed on the spot for them. The party drew to a close with the song, “Gravity”, sung beautifully by Yi Ran from Ridge View Residence.

All in all, the party was a Fantastic way for the students who were there to say “Good-bye” to NUS ECE for the year 2014/15.
