The NUS ECE Department organized the mBot Workshop on 2 and 5 December 2022. 56 students from various junior colleges and high schools (Dunman High School, Hwa Chong Institution, Jurong Pioneer Junior College, Nanyang Junior College, NUS High school of Math and Science, Raffles Institution, River Valley High School) participate in this 2-day workshop. During the workshop, the students learned about basic electronic circuits, sensors and embedded systems. They had the opportunity to build their own robot to navigate through a maze competition. The workshop provided a short teaser to the type of projects that our current year 1 student would be working on in the Engineering Principles and Practice module. A group of 9 NUS ECE Ambassadors accompanied the students to provide guidance and advice throughout the activities. The workshop also comprised:
- a visit to the Engineering Fabrication Laboratory where they interacted with ECE Innovation and Design Program students and found out more about their innovation projects
- and a talk on “Tech 4 Good” by Mr Chong Keng Hoe, CTO of Cisco
On the second day of the workshop, the students rolled up their sleeves and got busy working on their robots and the maze requirements. Following that, the students were evaluated on the time taken to complete the maze, the innovativeness of completion of the maze and the ability of their robots to detect colours correctly. The teams impressed the judges with their creativity and collaborative efforts especially with their decorated robot and the commentary presentation as their robot navigate through the maze.
