NUS IEEE-HKN Launches Talent Relay Initiative with Introduction to ROS2 Workshop

On 9 February 2025, the NUS IEEE-HKN Chapter successfully launched its Talent Relay Initiative with an engaging Introduction to ROS2 workshop. This initiative serves as a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing while also equipping members with leadership and teaching experience. As organizers and facilitators, IEEE-HKN members leveraged their expertise to guide peers, enhancing their communication and mentoring skills. Beyond technical learning, the initiative fosters meaningful connections among members with shared interests, cultivating a culture of continuous learning and collaboration within the IEEE-HKN community and the broader ECE faculty.

The Introduction to ROS2 workshop was conducted by Andy Cheng Jia Wei, who provided participants with a comprehensive overview of Robot Operating System 2 (ROS2)—a foundational platform in modern robotics development. A total of 26 students, including both IEEE-HKN members and non-members, attended the session. Through in-depth discussions and hands-on demonstrations, participants explored ROS2’s architecture, tools, and applications. The interactive format enabled students to experiment with robotics and automation concepts, equipping them with practical skills that can be applied to academic projects and future endeavors.

Beyond the workshop, participants stayed on for informal discussions, extending conversations beyond ROS2 and fostering deeper connections within the IEEE-HKN community. These interactions enriched the learning experience and strengthened bonds among attendees.

The NUS IEEE-HKN Chapter extends its sincere appreciation to Andy Cheng for leading the workshop and to all participants for their enthusiastic engagement. We look forward to expanding the Talent Relay Initiative with more opportunities for skill-building, mentorship, and collaboration in future workshops.
