Dr. Hong Junyuan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Previously, he was trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Michigan State University.
His research focuses on trustworthy machine learning, with an emphasis on privacy, fairness, robustness, and safety of AI. He develops methods and systems that make modern AI models more reliable in high-stakes settings, particularly large language models, and healthcare AI. A major direction of his work explores how AI can support cognitive health, including language-based conversational interventions for older adults with mild cognitive impairment. He was recognized as one of the MLSys Rising Stars in 2024 and received a Best Paper Nomination at VLDB 2024. His work has been covered by multiple major media, including Nature News, The White House, WIRED, Forbes, and FORTUNE.
