The event provided one of the first opportunities for the new cohort to connect with their academic advisors in a relaxed setting outside the classroom, laying the foundation for meaningful faculty–student relationships throughout their ECE journey. The evening began with registration, where freshmen were organised into groups and matched with their respective academic advisors through group assignments and icebreaker activities. The programme continued with opening addresses by Head of Department Professor Biplab Sikdar and ECE USC President Johnathan, who welcomed the new cohort and shared insights into what students could look forward to during their time in ECE. The Year 1 ECE USC members were also introduced to the freshmen, giving new students an early introduction to the peer support network and student community available through the council.
A key highlight of the evening was the dinner session, where freshmen had the opportunity to sit down with their assigned academic advisors over food and drinks. The informal setting encouraged open conversations, allowing students to get to know their advisors and peers while gaining a sense of the support available to them as they begin university life.
Beyond welcoming the new cohort, the event reflected the ECE USC’s commitment to fostering a strong sense of community and building connections between students and faculty from the outset of their undergraduate journey. The Freshmen Welcome Party marked a meaningful start to the Class of 2026’s ECE experience, as students took their first steps towards building friendships, connecting with their academic community and beginning their journey in ECE.
