Award Associação RAEGE Açores – Best Presentation Award at the WOCSDICE EXMATEC 2022_Ph.D. student Ms Pu Yuhan

Congratulations to Ph.D. student Ms Pu Yuhan, supervised by Associate Professor Yung C. Liang from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

WOCSDICE is an annual workshop with a long-standing tradition, as it was established in 1973. The meeting brings together internationally recognised researchers as well as promising early career scientists and engineers to disseminate state‐of‐the‐art research findings in the areas of compound semiconductor materials, associated devices and integrated circuits.  EXMATEC has been based on biennial meetings for 25 years. The meeting sets itself apart by the presence of multidisciplinary well‐known distinguished experts, young and talented researchers and business delegates from all over the world to present and exchange cutting‐edge ideas and technologies in the fields of material fabrication, characterization and processing of compound semiconductors.

The WOCSDICE EXMATEC 2022 conference was held at Ponta Delgada (São Miguel island – Azores), PORTUGAL, 3 – 6 May.   The graduate student conference awards (four categories) are sponsored by major technical societies of Portugal.

The award selection criteria are made into two phases.  During phase 1, alongside the quality of the submitted paper, the jury panel will take into account the originality and thoroughness of the applicant’s research work, as well as the impact of the obtained results in the research area and its potential regarding future developments.  And for the phase 2, during the Conference, the jury panel will attend the finalists assigned talks in order to select the Award winners. For this phase, the jury panel will take into account the quality of each oral presentation and the clarity in replying to questions from the audience.

Ms. Pu’s research is on the UV photodetector made of Gallium Nitride material which demonstrates high gain and high sensibility.  Her technical paper proposes a new carrier collection mechanism which is able to achieve very high photo to dark current ratio.  She received the Award Associação RAEGE Açores certificate and prize money delivered by Dr. Francisco Wallenstein Macedo, President of the Board of Directors of Associação RAEGE Açores, for her contribution in the technical area of fundamental research and devices for radioastronomy and space geodesy.
