Professor Vincent Tan Awarded NRF Investigatorship (Class of 2026)

Congratulations to Prof Vincent Tan from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), National University of Singapore (NUS), on being awarded the National Research Foundation (NRF) Investigatorship, Class of 2026.

His research proposal, “Fundamental Limits of Language Models via Information Theory,” was selected for the prestigious NRF Investigatorship programme, which supports a select group of outstanding Principal Investigators with strong track records of research achievement and leadership in their respective fields.

The programme provides researchers with the opportunity to pursue ambitious, high-risk, high-reward research with the potential to make significant scientific breakthroughs. Through this five-year award, Prof Tan will investigate the theoretical foundations of language models through the lens of information theory, seeking to deepen our understanding of their fundamental capabilities and limitations.

As artificial intelligence continues to advance, establishing a rigorous theoretical understanding of language models is increasingly important. Prof Tan’s research aims to contribute to this fundamental understanding, helping to shape future developments in AI.

NUS ECE congratulates Prof Tan on this significant achievement and looks forward to the contributions of his research to the advancement of artificial intelligence.
