SCDF Lifesavers' Innovation Challenge
Second year electrical engineering students Loh Yun Ying and Ng Yong Jie won the second prize at the SCDF Lifesavers’ Innovation Challenge 2019. The “Badger Team” won a cash prize of $S6,000 for their proposal “Building Assessment Device for Generalised Emergency Response”. The team proposed to utilize the phenomenon of fire induced vibration using smart sensors to facilitate fire-fighting personnel in evaluating the structural integrity of a building during a fire to mitigate the risks of structural collapse while response personnel are inside it, reducing potential injuries or deaths.
Organized by the Singapore Civil Defence Force, the SCDF Lifesavers’ Innovation Challenge 2019 aims to provide an opportunity for undergraduates from all local universities, across all disciplines to propose and develop solutions to address existing challenges faced by the SCDF.
